A label is a promise. When the words on a package say one thing and the product inside is another, Missouri law gives the buyer a claim under the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act.

False labeling takes many forms: an ingredient the label leaves out, a health or nutrition claim the product does not support, a word chosen to suggest something the company never promised outright. The question is what a reasonable consumer would take the label to mean, even when the amount each buyer lost seems small.

Companies choose their words with care. So does the firm, and so does the record it builds.
